RED BANK INTERNATIONAL FILM FEST SWINGS AND HITS!!

The First Red Bank International Film Festival, took place August 14, 15, and 16 at Clearview Cinemas. Each night played to sold out audiences; 230 for each day. Of the 150 films submitted, 45 were screened. The Freedom Film Society would sincerely like to thank all of its sponsors, volunteers, patrons, participating filmmakers and, of course, the press for helping to put the word out on the street.

And we can't forget Clearview Cinemas and their incredible staff for putting up with us for three days and helping out with the festival proceedings.

One of the most memorable moments of the festival was the appearance of special guest Mark Borchardt, star and subject of festival highlight American Movie, straight from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mark is also the director of Coven which was also screened. Borchardt, as any one in attendance will never forget, shocked and amazed everyone with his candid Q and A following the screenings. This is one man who knows how to entertain his audience.

Congratulations went out to Mark Borchardt for being the recipient of the first annual Freedom Award which was awarded to him based upon his devoted and courageous support of independent filmmaking.

Additionally, the Festival announced its first annual award for outstanding filmmaking. That award went to......drum roll please......Philip Botti, for his short comedic narrative Bust a Move which revealed the trials and tribulations of a twenty- something exit 109 toll booth collector and his living-at-home angst.

Being the first Red Bank International Film Festival, there were some scheduling and technical gliches. Apologies are extended to anyone who may have been inconvenienced by such errors.
