DARK DAYS
The second screening at our new venue, Clearview Cinemas, featured the audience and critically acclaimed documentary Dark Days. The film follows filmmaker Marc Singer's exploration into the depths of New York's abandoned underground railroad tunnels as he documents the lives of a group of homeless people who have chosen to live in darkness. He allows them to tell the stories of their lives, revealing the humanity and horrors of their underground existence. The film also includes the celebrated soundtrack of DJ Shadow.
DarkDays has recieved a plethora of awards from festivals and film organizarions, since it's release in 2000, including being named the winner of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Best Documentary Award and the Indie Spirit Award for Best Documentary in 2000. The Film was also a favorite at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival, where it took home the Audience Award, Cinematography Award and Freedom of Expression Award in the Documentary Category.
In addition to the feature, the short film Bullet in the Brain by David von Ancken was also screened. This film focuses on a cynical English professor who comes face to face with death and recalls his most precious childhood memory in the theater of his mind.
The two films played to an audience of 120. All proceeds from the screening were donated to the Red Bank food kitchen, Lunchbreak. 102 cans of food were collected and donated to Lunchbreak as well.
