In a Nutshell chronicles the unique life of Elizabeth Yegsa Tashjian: concert violinist, classical painter, Christian Science healer, media celebrity and curator of the one and only Nut Museum. Today, at ninety-two years old, Tashjian finds herself in a new role: Ward of the State. After a series of tragic events surrounding her health and finances, the contents of the Nut Museum have been permanently removed and her beloved Victorian mansion is on the market. Declared insane by her state-appointed conservators, the notorious Nut Lady is fighting to preserve her identity and regain the life she built.
