Snake Hill

Having screened to a sold out audience during this summer's Freedom Film Series, Snake Hill joins us for an encore presentation here at RBIFF.

Buried, but not forgotten.

New Jersey's infamous Snake Hill was the last stop for thousands of terminally ill patients, indigents, "lunatics" and prisoners from 1870 to 1962.

Over 10,000 bodies and their belongings were buried two-deep on the grounds. Abandoned and forsaken, they lay in deplorable conditions for decades as millions of unsuspecting motorists passed by on the New Jersey Turnpike every day.

When a 2002 Turnpike excavation unearthed human remains at Snake Hill, one man's 22 year search for his grandfather took a dramatic turn.

As the only living lineal descendents on record, Patrick Andriani and his father, Gennaro, served as the impetus for a court ordered disinterment/re-interment project that became the largest of its kind in U.S. History.

Things suddenly change when Cliff gets a phone call informing him that one of his childhood friends died unexpectedly. At the funeral, Cliff learns his buddy had been planning a trip around the world. Cliff decides to make sure his friend still makes that trip, even if it means carrying his ashes in a thermos to do it. Together, all three embark on a trip of a lifetime.

Greetings From The Shore

Still reeling from the death of her father, a young girl spends one last summer at the Jersey Shore before heading off to college. But when her plans fall apart, the girl stumbles into a mysterious world of Russian sailors, high-stakes gambling, and unexpected love.
Drawn from the coming-of-age experiences of writer Gabrielle Berberich, 'Greetings From The Shore' is part memoir, part fairytale. The film was shot on an island off the coast of New Jersey, Barnegat Island, in the same seaside town where the real events occurred to Berberich. Like the setting, each character is an island. They are loners, dreamers brought together by fate for one chance summer.

An ensemble cast brings these vivid characters to life, including Paul Sorvino, David Fumero, Jay O. Sanders, and Kim Shaw in a debut performance. The film is an homage to coming-of-age classics like 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Mystic Pizza,' while in its own right, 'Greetings From The Shore' is a unique and personal story. It's a love letter in the sand, a tribute to the Jersey Shore, and a postcard from summers past.

2 hrs -    (New Jersey, USA)

Outsourced

32 year old Todd Anderson (Josh Hamilton) manages a customer call center in Seattle until he gets the bad news from his boss: his job has been outsourced. Adding insult to injury, he must go to India to train his own replacement.

The chaos of Bombay assaults his senses and his new office there is paralyzed by cultural misunderstandings. As he gets to know his co-workers, Todd finds them disarming and thoroughly likeable, including his friendly replacement, Puro (Asif Basra), and the charming, opinionated Asha (Ayesha Dharker).

He realizes that he has a lot to learn - about India, America and himself - and that being outsourced may be the best thing that ever happened to him.
